|a The purpose of this research study is to determine whether college students are drawn to substance abuse, due to the stress college can cause. The substances that are studied in this research paper that are being studied for normalization are marijuana, alcohol, and vaping. Through this research, we hope to determine whether substance abuse is normalized in the average college student. This research study targeted SUNY Oswego students, all of whose ages were twenty-one years old. Students were interviewed with questions pertaining to their stress relieving habits as well as drinking habits. Of the five participants, four identified as women, and one identified as male. Two-of-five participants said that they preferred smoking marijuana over drinking for stress relief. Two other participants felt that neither substances helped relieve stress; the final participant felt that they did feel more relaxed following drinking. Further data analysis was conducted to observe further findings. |
