Dr. James E. Perdue, President, 1965-1977. ( eng )
Summary:
James E. Perdue was appointed president of the college in 1965 following a two-year interim period during which Prof. Charles S. Turner had served as acting president. Dr. Perdue, a Phi Beta Kappa who received his M.A. degree from Colorado Sate College and Ph.D. from Stanford University, served as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Denver prior to coming to Oswego. ( eng )
Summary:
The 1960's marked a period of unprecedented development throughout the entire State University of New York. Oswego, as part of that system, grew dramatically. In 1963 an extensive $35.5 million building program had been announced, and it was well under way when the new president was selected. The constuction of a social science building, student-faculty center, communication-lecture hall building, fine arts building and administration building were begun months after his arrival. Dr. Perdue had the happy and challenging responsibility of bringing those buildings to completion and occupancy. ( eng )
