Notes
Summary:
The first general shop, 1930. ( eng )
Summary:
The general shop permitted the demonstration of a wide range of processes and skills. The development of a general shop at Oswego State was spearheaded by Eugene Essex, instructor of Industrial Arts. In "Oswego: Fountainhead of Teacher Education" Dorothy Rogers writes: "Both industrial arts education and the general shop were manifestations of larger currents of educational and psychological thought. They harmonized with the increasingly popular concepts of correlation, integration, and basic understanding. In consequence, classroom programs became centered around activities rather than subjects." ( eng )
